University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician I to support UPMC Vision Institute – St. Margaret located at 100 Delafield Road Suite 201 Pittsburgh, PA 15215. This role will work Monday through Friday daylight hours; Hours vary weekly. 7-3:30p, 7:30-4pm, 8- 4:30p (no weekends or holidays). Travel to other locations will be required for coverage purposes.

Responsibilities:

Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to – Contact lenses: insertion, removal and instructions Complete intake exam: chief complaint, HPI, medications, Allergies, medical history, Vision check, Lensometry, refractions, Tonometry, Pupil and angle check, EOM, Confrontational fields, Color plates, assist with ocular testing when needed. Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate. History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family. Lensometry: automated and manual Angle assessment & dilation of pupils Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day. Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus Tonometry: Icare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity
