Duties include routine and advanced venipuncture specimen collection procedures. Under general supervision, following established standards and practices, collect blood from patients; instruct patients in the procedure for the collection of specimens. As well as Informed consent form acquisition, sample inventory management, and data entry into the database. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Dispose of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies. + Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methods. + Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies. + Organize or clean blood-drawing trays, ensuring that all instruments are sterile and all needles, syringes, or related items are of first-time use. + Transport specimens or fluid samples from collection sites to laboratories. + Do specimen sample preparations. + Assists with other duties as required to maintain efficient flow of patient care. Perform other duties (as assigned by doctor). Requires completion of phlebotomy training program or six months of recent phlebotomy experience (clinical or hospital-based preferred). Preferred Qualifications: One or more of the following is preferred: + Graduation from a certified health-related program at the high school level or above; or + Successful completion of advanced placement courses in the sciences at the high school level; or + Successful completion of science-based studies at the college level (minimum of three credit hours). Prefer GPA of 3.0 or above. + Must have computer operational skills using a personal computer, laboratory system or other hospital information system.
