*This is a part-time Other Personnel Service (OPS) Registered Nurse position working with the Department of Health in Lee County.*
Duties and Responsibilities
This OPS Registered Nurse acts as a nursing consultant to all non-public schools in Lee County. This position assures compliance by the private Lee County schools with Florida Statutes regarding school health, protects and promotes the wellbeing of all students, reduces barriers to learning, and acts as a consultant to specific school sites as requested by the individual schools. The incumbent in this position is under the supervision of the Assistant Community Health Nursing Director. Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Department of Health (DOH), HIPAA, and Information Security & Privacy Policy, Protocols, and Procedures. Employee abides by State/Federal laws governing health information. Responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy and integrity of protected health information. This position may require access to the following data sets: Immunizations, Tuberculosis (TB), and Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD). Collaboration with DOH programs such as Immunizations, TB, STD, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Family Planning, and Healthy Start is an integral part of this position. This position requires complete and current knowledge of all aspects of the school health and immunization programs, including but not limited to: childhood immunizations (Vaccines for Children-VFC), comprehensive school health requirements, communicable disease control and reporting, community health, data entry, childhood health screenings, community referrals, and provision of outreach services.
Acts as a liaison between the Florida Department of Health –Lee (DOH-Lee) and the private, public and charter schools within Lee County, interpreting and monitoring State and Federal regulation requirements for school entry, physicals, and immunization compliance for each student. Works with the school registrars to provide training as requested to ensure compliance with all state required vaccines, screenings, and reports. In accordance with FS 381.0056 School Health Services Program, provides direct nursing services by providing counseling and anticipatory guidance; conducting necessary screenings according to age and school grade, for example: vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth and development, Body Mass Index (BMI); data entry; and referrals for intervention and follow up in an accurate and timely manner. This position has the responsibility of being the Information Custodian for the School Program information set and will perform related duties as defined in DOHP 50-10.
Initiates, reviews, and updates the health records and monitors the recordkeeping system at each school site. Documents thoroughly, accurately and timely on the students’ school health record. Acts as a consultant and professional nursing resource to school staff and parents regarding health problems, health education, and local community health resources for students and families. Maintains excellent rapport with community health care providers to enhance probability of student obtaining medical care to achieve optimal health. May provide educational in-service/training to school clinic staff and students as needed following DOH and Lee County School District guidelines.
Monitors school health services by coordinating data collection for compilation of reports for submission to the state health program office within set time frames. Provides data analysis and statistical information for quality improvement. Maintains current knowledge of changes in laws and regulations and keeps school health staff informed and updated. Provides consultation in the development of health policies, goals, and objectives for the school district.
Assists DOH-Lee immunization program by effectively conducting and participating in outreach immunization clinics within the community, including during times of high-volume or emerging threat situations. Assists with the development and delivery of educational presentations to DOH staff and the community.
Advises and assists with implementation of the Teen Health and Wellness Clinic services and initiatives.
Assists with health fairs, community organizations, and specific public health events as requested. Provides continuing education programs for DOH-Lee staff or private providers as requested. Attends pertinent conferences as requested or permitted.

Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite):
+ Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27.
Other job-related requirements for this position:
+ Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
+ Must be willing to undergo FIT testing.
+ Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.
+ This position will abide by all state and federal laws, rules, and DOH policies and procedures.
+ Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.
+ This position is authorized to transport confidential information outside of established DOH-Lee facilities and must comply with parameters defined in DOHP 50-10.
+ Must have current CPR certification or obtain such certification during employment.
+ Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment.
