The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

Description

Summer intern position to support the manufacturing and engineering of world-class, high-precision optical systems in Corning's Advanced Optics division.  This internship is for students with strengths and interests in the intersection of optics, math, and computer science.  Primary duties will involve developing or refining data-analysis algorithms or design-optimization software.

Coursework in multivariable calculus and linear algebra Experience with high-level programming languages for engineering & scientific calculations, like MATLAB or Python Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 (May-August 2025) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity. Desired Skills:

Coursework in geometrical optics, physical optics, or interferometry Experience with compiled languages, like C or C++

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
