Optical Coating Technician III (2nd Shift 2:00pm - 10:30pm)

Under minimal supervision, the Optical Coating Tech III follows written Standard Manufacturing Procedures and detailed Work Instructions to process a variety of optics through coating operations. This position will be hired to work on 2nd Shift (2:00pm - 10:30pm).

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, the Optical Coating Tech III follows written Standard Manufacturing Procedures and detailed Work Instructions to process a variety of optics through inspection, cleaning, loading/unloading, and operation of coating equipment. The assigned optics is generally not large or fragile but can be easily damaged if not carefully handled following meticulous protocol.  This is a 2nd shift position (2:00pm-10:30pm). 

The work includes such as:

Clean optical surfaces utilizing a variety of chemical and mechanical means.  Inspect optics to assure complete removal of all surface residue and particulates. Utilizing scratch and dig standards and designated reticles, assure no rejectable physical damage is present. Load optics into designated tooling or fixtures in preparation for coating. Unload coated optics and re-inspect for coating quality and to assure that no physical damage has occurred. Prevent or correct deficiencies in surface quality and workmanship.  Operation of coating equipment that applies coating onto optics. Primarily coats standard and some engineering coating designs on optical substrates. Performs support functions to keep the equipment and process running effectively. Timely and accurate completion of defined documentation and entry of data into established databases.

 

Education & Experience

High School Diploma / GED or equivalent related experience. Typically requires a minimum of 5-7 years of related experience; broad knowledge of operational procedures and tools obtained through work experience. May require vocational or technical education. Demonstrates proficiency in vacuum systems and optical coatings.

 

Skills

Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs Language Skills Effective verbal communication. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Standard Manufacturing Procedures, Work Instructions and equipment operating manuals. Reasoning Ability Ability to comprehend and apply common sense understanding sufficient to carry out instructions in written, oral and diagram form. Demonstrated ability to properly and consistently handle optics and windows without causing damage Demonstrates basic understanding of the coating process

 

Working Conditions

The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate/loud.

 

Physical Requirements

The employee will frequently need to be able to lift up to 5-25lbs during routine work with or without assistance. Clean room protocols and PPE will be necessary to work in this position.
