Complete Description:
The Office of the Chief Technology Officer seeks an experienced Tier 2 Optical Network Engineer to assist with engineering and implementation of DC-Net’s Internet (IP), Ethernet and DWDM transport services.
The Tier 2 Optical Network Engineer will primarily support the Optical Transport Group in operations maintenance of the Ethernet and DWDM backbone. The Optical Engineer will support engineering and implementation of Ethernet and DWDM services. The Optical Transport Group primarily supports DC Government data center, DC-Net’s MPLS backbone, Internet Ring, federal government agencies and non-profit agencies over the optical network.
The objective of this procurement is to assist and advise in the engineering, implementation and support of DCNET’s Government Service Provider Network supporting and connecting critical District of Columbia government infrastructure. The individual will provide ongoing operations and support of DC-Net’s Service Level Agreement with its customers based on industry expertise in requirement analysis, functional design and deployment of complex technology solutions across enterprise and service provider networks and responding to network issues. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide hands-on troubleshooting for all network-related issues arising on the optical platform and connected switching and routing devices
• Service provisioning for IP, Ethernet and DWDM services
• Provide hands-on analysis and quality assurance for the DCNET optical engineering team, leveraging industry expertise and understanding of large service provider design and deployments of complex technology solutions.
• Creating detailed As-built Documentation capturing network details in Visio diagrams, word document and powerpoint
