Optician - Optical - Full Time
POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for selling eyewear, contact lenses and accessories customers in the optical retail department; product selection, fitting, dispensing and drive sales. ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Customize eyewear for each patient by taking measurements with various measuring devices. 2. Evaluate prescription and recommend specific lens materials, designs, coatings and appropriate frame sizes and shapes to best suit patient preferences and visual outcomes. 3. Prepare and maintain work orders, prescriptions, and instructions for associated labs to fabricate lenses. 4. Make minor repairs or adjustments to eyewear for proper fit to each patient. 5. Verify insurance benefits, determine cost, and bill insurance. 6. Perform administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales, submitting patient insurance information and basic bookkeeping. 7. Instruct patients on how to properly care for eyeglasses. 8. Sell contact lenses, eyeglasses, vitamins, and other accessories related to eyes. 9. Utilize the lensometer to verify or final inspect a patient’s eyeglass prescription. 10. Teach patients how to insert, remove and care for their contact lenses. 11. Troubleshoot problems related to patient complaints, diffuse unsatisfied patients, and provide solutions to remedy situations. 12. Arrange and maintain displays of optical merchandise. 13. Supervise the training of apprentice opticians. 14. Finishing lab duties such as edging, polishing, tinting and final inspection. 15. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School diploma/GED Skills: Successful candidates must be professional, provide superior customer service, have excellent attention to detail, effective communication skills, be able to multi-task and strong computer proficiency including required optical POS system. Years of Experience: Minimum of 1 year of optician experience. If not licensed at time of hire, must obtain Ohio Optician License as soon as candidate is eligible. License: Ohio Optician License Preferred experience In finishing lab, edger maintenance, reading and verifying prism, applying Fresnel prism, assembling drill mount frames and neutralizing eyeglasses.
