As an Optics and Liquid Crystal Expert in the Photochromics Group at the Monroeville Business and Technology Center, you will engage in meaningful work at the intersection of optics, liquid crystal science, and materials science to deliver an ophthalmic device. This role is specialized, focusing on the uncharted territories of photochromic and liquid crystal technology and its optical properties. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team to develop new Ophthalmic medical device based on liquid crystal and photochromic technologies. The nature of this project is pioneering, both within our organization and in the broader scientific community, offering a unique opportunity for those interested in contributing to the advancement of this emerging field.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop innovative new ophthalmic products through photochromic, liquid crystal materials, and device fabrication
Develop innovative designs in vision optics
Manage and deliver project milestones in a timely manner
Apply advanced innovative designs, from ideation through early phase, to product launch
Optimize processing parameters and materials selection for LC optical devices
Formulate and characterize optical properties of photochromic and liquid crystal materials
Maintain a safe working environment and be an advocate for lab safety
Apply efficient experimental design and statistical analysis methods to accelerate development
Collaborate regularly with team members and external partners
Clearly communicate results through presentations and written reports
Pursue intellectual property protection for new technologies
Up to 10% travel
Qualifications:
PhD in liquid crystal optics, optics, materials science, or other related field with 5-15 years of industry experience or equivalent OR Masters with 15+ years of experience.
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and interfacing with customers.
Creative, hands-on scientist
Strong analytical and math skills
Self-starter in a team environment
Knowledge of optics, vision science, liquid crystal optics, and devices is desired
Familiarity with ophthalmic lens, organic chromophores, polymers, and lens materials is a plus
