Opto-Electronics Device Digital-Twin Intern (PhD Program)

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Digital Twin Model Development

Develop advanced physics-based models for opto-electronic components (e.g., modulators, photodiodes, lasers, and waveguides) using simulation tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL, CST, Zemax, or equivalent. Integrate real-world experimental data to enhance model fidelity and predict device behavior under varying operating conditions.

Simulation & Analysis

Employ numerical methods (FDTD, FEM, ray tracing, etc.) for device-level and system-level simulations, leveraging high-performance computing (HPC) environments when necessary. Analyze simulation outputs to extract meaningful insights about device performance, reliability, and scalability.

Education & Experience

Education

Currently enrolled in a PhD program focusing on Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics, Optoelectronics, or a related field. Strong academic record with relevant coursework/research in photonics, semiconductor devices, or electromagnetic theory.

Technical Proficiency

Hands-on experience with simulation and modeling tools (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL, CST, Zemax, ANSYS). Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar for automation, data processing, and custom model development. Familiarity with HPC environments and parallel computing approaches is a plus.

Skills

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills

Proven ability to handle complex data sets, apply numerical methods, and draw data-driven conclusions. Comfort with troubleshooting simulation anomalies and iterating on model parameters to match real-world performance.
