Description:

Position Purpose

Assists in setting up operating rooms in preparation for cases.  Assists in turnover of operating room suites by removal of used supplies and equipment and cleaning floors between cases.  Assist in cleaning and sterilizing instruments.  Delivers specimens to lab and prepares specimens as directed.  Restocks supplies.  Transports patients to and from the operating room/PACU.  Assists patient out of hospital upon discharge.  Transports patient beds to OR when requested.  Assists with environmental cleaning as time permits.  Ages served range from newborn to geriatric.

What You Will Do

Functions in an assistive role under the supervision of the Registered Nurse retaining accountability for one’s own actions and behaviors,Assists in the physical management of patient: i.e. rooming, toileting, dressing, ambulation, transport to car.Provides physical, emotional and spiritual care to the patient population with respect to age specific and culturally sensitive needs as described in the department’s scope of service.Records and report information such as: vital signs, intake and output, weight, and any behavioral changes appropriate supervisory personnel.Collects specimens and performs diagnostic procedures as directed (UA, BGM, VS, I&O, etc.).Provides care and prevention necessary to keep patient safe.Completes routine daily assignments such as: set up/stock supplies; record patient admission information in log book; transport patients; obtain medications, supplies, and medical records from other departments.Ensures completion of pre-op checklist by extracting data from patient chart and asking patient questions prior to transporting to the OR.Assists in the decontamination and sterilization of instruments.Transports specimens to the lab and prepares specimen as directed.Pulls supplies for cases as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.Certified Nurse Aide, verification of certification from the State of Iowa.Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.Previous experience preferred.Must be able to work concurrently on a variant of tasks in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.Must be able to set and organize own work priorities, and adapt to them as they change.Excellent communication skills.Demonstrate knowledge of basic computer skills in a Windows environment.Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
