Job Description Summary: The University Archives is providing a 10-week VU Singers Preservation Internship to any Villanova University student interested in the field of preservation, archives, and/or the vocal group, VU Singers. The internship is intended to support building out an oral history component to the VU Singers archival collection. The intern will assist in the efforts to contact, organize, and conduct oral histories in the form of video interviews with former members. The interviews will be preserved in the University Archives. The funding for the internship is generously provided by a Singers alumnus.

The position is open to currently enrolled Villanova students, knowledge of VU Singers required.

Responsibilities:

With the assistance of the Digital and Preservation Archivist and VU Singers Legacy Society members, create an oral history project. This includes outreach, preparing and conducting interviews of VU Singers alum. Liaison in collecting material from current and former VU Singers to contribute to VU Singers Legacy Society timeline. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required. Knowledge of VU Singers and their legacy required. Prior experience with Microsoft Excel. Ability to work accurately with detailed information. Ability to work efficiently and independently. Ability to apply judgment to complex or ambiguous situations, and to effectively communicate questions when appropriate. Basic computer knowledge and skills including web browsing, searching, and accurate keyboarding. Proficiency with MS Office products. Proficient with Windows computers. Knowledge of WordPress preferred. Knowledge in recording applications preferred. Experience with microphones preferred. Degree progress in a relevant field (history, literature, communication, etc.) preferred.


Additional Information: All student employees must complete hiring paperwork online before they can be hired. Also, new student employees must go to the Human Resources Office in person to show original forms of employment authorization and identification required for the I-9 form. Physical Demands Summary: Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking for up to 4 hours at a time; frequent bending and lifting; able to lift 30 lbs. of library materials while moving/walking; pushing and pulling a book truck (4 wheels) of library materials weighing between 50 and 100 lbs.; ability to climb several flights of stairs on an occasional basis. The VU Singers Preservation Intern may be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays to meet service needs of the VU community.
