As the Organ Placement Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment. You will lead organ procurement, preservation and perfusion teams. You will be responsible for preparing many aspects of the surgical case, logistically and physically. You will also actively collaborate with other organ procurement teams in patient care concerning organ donation. This is varied schedule with on-call requirements. POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for directing, overseeing, implementing and maximizing the organ procurement process in coordination with hospital staff and physicians. The Organ Recovery Coordinator oversees the preservation and all logistics of transportation for solid organ donation to and from donor facilities. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Oversees organ preservation, perfusion, and packaging of all organs for transplant, including various methods of cold storage and transportation. Facilitates all logistics, training and supplies needed for organ recovery according to current practices. 2. For solid organ transplants, serves as a content matter expert relating to methods of cannulation, perfusion, and organ recovery. This includes, but is not limited to, pulsatile machine preservation of kidneys, normothermic regional perfusion (NRP), and various modalities of organ perfusion, cold storage, and transplantation. 3. Works 24 hour on-call shifts which require travel on a regional/ national scale to assist surgical staff with organ procurement. Demonstrates aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procurement. 4. Ensures that organs are recovered in compliance with hospital, United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS), and Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN) policies. Coordinates with local Organ Procurement Organizations (OPO) to coordinate optimal utilization of solid organ donation. 5. Coordinates all phases of transportation to and from the donor facility. Arranges air transportation, as needed, along with ground transportation for all team members. 6. Under the direction of the provider, assists in procuring the donated organ and secures the organ in the directed method of storage for transportation back to the intended recipient center. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and understanding of a healthcare setting typically obtained by a Bachelor’s degree in science-related field. Two years of organ recovery or related experience required. Ability to work a flexible work schedule of 24 hour on call shifts, including nights and weekends. Requires thorough understanding of medical terminology and interpretation of basic organ function vital signs/labs. Demonstrated excellence in communication and customer service skills. Ability to multi-task under pressure and appropriately prioritize actions to accomplish goals. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills.
