Orthopaedic Cast Technician | Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institute | Gainesville
Overview The Orthopaedic Cast Technician provides patient care in an ambulatory clinic setting under the direct responsibility of a licensed physician. The technician participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting by: fabricating, applying, maintaining and removing casts, splints, Orthopaedic soft goods and other musculoskeletal dressing and appliances; by assisting other nursing staff and health care providers with daily patient flow; exams, simple and complex procedures. Assures appropriate visit notes, tests, and/or x-ray results are available for visit. Performs clinic-specific technical skills. Maintains clinic environment, including supplies and equipment. The Orthopaedic Cast Technician may also perform clerical, insurance, and medical records functions. May be required to float to other practices as needed for staffing. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: The candidate must possess one of the following education and experience requirements: Completion of an Orthopaedic Technologist certified school/program. Completion of a formal medical services training program of the U.S. Armed Forces with proof of a certificate upon discharge. Graduate of an approved course of study as a Medical Assistant. Graduate of an accredited paramedic program with proof of a valid state license. Certification in an Orthopaedic-related field (i.e., Athletic Trainer). Graduation from a formal 6 week Nursing Assistant program and at least one full year full time experience. Two years on a job full time experience in a hospital, healthcare setting or physician's office. The candidate should display initiative, have the ability to multitask, and be able to take on additional responsibilities. Proven ability to problem-solve and be a team player is essential. Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Basic Life Support (CPR) required or obtained within first month of employment. If currently possess Licensure or Certification expectation would be to continue with this Licensure or Certification.
