As an Orthopedic Technician, you champion multiple patients as they begin their rehabilitation journey. Working closely with orthopedic providers and clinical team members, your goal is to maximize functionality and minimize pain for bone and joint injuries with nonsurgical therapeutics, casts and splints, and orthopedic traction equipment. It’s all about improving quality of life one step at a time.

Your Everyday
Apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints, and traction under the direct supervision of Orthopedic providers. Observe patients for any breaks in skin integrity and report these to the nurse, physician, or provider. Educate/assist with the implementation of a plan of care in the areas of traction, casts & splints, and halo devices Serve as a resource to nursing personnel when consulted concerning various types of traction, modifications, and complications. Provide patients with written information and education regarding cast care and complications of plaster casts, causes, and treatments. Educate/assist nursing staff with use of Hoyer lifts for patient mobility and bed scales for accurate weights Assist hospital lift team with lifts and patient transport to move patients as needed Maintain supplies, equipment and the Cast Room in a clean and orderly condition. Assist orthopedic surgeons in the operating room. Demonstrate knowledge, training of sterilization and infection control protocols.
