Orthopedic Tech - Ortho Clinic, Days 1.0 FTE

JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): Orthopedic Clinic Technician responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:  providing direct and indirect patient care as directed by physicians and participates in surgical and non-surgical procedures as well. The Technician assists orthopedic surgeons in Cast Room during patients care procedures including: fracture reduction, hardware removal, halo traction application, dressing changes, and other orthopedic procedures. This individual measures and fits patients for braces and other orthopedic devices. He/ She will educate the patient in the use of these devices. The incumbent applies mobilization and immobilization devices for inpatient and post operative patients, i.e. shoulder slings, knee immobilizers, traction, abduction pillows, continuous passive motion machines. This individual will actively participate in the surgery and procedure scheduling process. He/She will assure that all needed testing, prior authorizations, and coordination of resources have been completed prior to the surgery date. He/She will be required to attend 80% of staff meetings.

Aptitudes: Ability to achieve cognitive, organization and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations and/or customers. Possesses interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and customer relations. Open to feedback, and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments. 

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: The Technician should demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology. He/She must have excellent Gross and Fine motor skills.  The candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Prior experience in hospital, athletic training sports medicine or physician office setting is preferred.

EDUCATION: High School Graduate or GED. Degree in Athletic Training preferred.  Maintains knowledge, skills, and abilities through ongoing education. Completes all mandatory review/ education as required and assigned.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: BLS required
