The purpose of this position is to ensure accurate and timely outpatient specialty retail pharmacy patient charges by providing technical support in the design, implementation and ongoing monitoring of pharmaceutical charges processed by the Department of Pharmacy Services. This activity requires interfacing with other institutional systems involved in drug charge processing including, but not limited to, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacist, Pharmacy Operations Management, Revenue Cycle Team, Patient Billing Services, Patient Account Services, and Hospital Fiscal Services.
This position works independently performing specialized and detailed review of the entire outpatient drug revenue cycle. This includes reviewing reports to determine conformity for documentation and billing compliance in support of the complex, ever changing and expanding Pharmacy Service Lines.
Use in-depth knowledge on Pharmacy Willow Ambulatory to identify difference between workflow and system issues as they arise. Timely and accurate review and submission of pharmacy charges and reimbursements. Triage of incoming inquires, collaborate across the organization to adapt workflow to properly capture patient revenue accurately when the system is unable to support the function. Train and cross-train team members. Create new and maintain policies and procedures.

Function/Duties of Position Use retail pharmacy clinical knowledge to perform detail review and analysis of pharmacy dispense, adjudication, reconciliation, and coding to ensure pharmacy billing compliance standards are met.Verify medication charge calculation based on specific National Drug Code (NDC) and for units administered to the patient.Identify charging and reimbursement errors and resolve them appropriatelyEnsure current up to date pricing by validating Epic applied pricing is consistent with external source, when inconsistency exist use experience and judgement to propose resolutionTrouble shoot, problem solve, communicate and collaborate deficienciesMaintain multiple follow-up and work towards resolution with Technicians, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Operations on deficiency to support billing complianceReview reports for deficiencies and identify trends, resolve issues and create remediation plan as necessaryAnalyze and interpret charge and reimbursement data to ensure accuracyPropose changes to improve workflow and system that will improve revenue cycle for the retail pharmaciesProvide technical support in the design, implementation and ongoing monitoring of pharmaceutical charges across multiple pharmacy systems. Three years of experience administering or coordinating parts or subsets of a project or program.
1-2 years of related experience in a pharmacy technician role that requires accurately, efficiently and effectively meet the performance standards
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Organized task and follow-up items
Ability to read and understand medical related terms
Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations
Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment; effective organizational abilities, oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills; ability to operate and communicate effectively while meeting multiple deadlines and completing projects simultaneously; ability to interact in a positive, productive manner with provider, nursing, pharmacy staff and leadership (demonstrating sensitivity, tact, and professionalism)
