Outpatient Rehab Services Technician - Horseheads Outpatient
Job Description MAIN FUNCTION: Assists in carrying out patient-related activities which are pre-determined for each patient and assigned by the professional therapist. Responsible for assisting with clerical duties at the front desk in the absence of the Rehab Secretary. The Rehab Services Technician reports to the Rehab Site Supervisor and receives direction from the Staff Physical, Occupational and/or Speech Therapists. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ** 1. Assists with patient treatment preparations: a. Informs the therapist of patient's arrival in department. b. Assists patients in filling out any forms before being seen by therapists. c. Assists the patient to treatment area. d. Assists the patient in dressing and undressing as needed. e. Assists the patient in positioning for use of equipment or application of modalities. ** 2. Assists the therapist with aquatic therapy treatments (if applicable to setting). ** 3. Under the direction of the therapist, assists patients in the safe practice of activities related to the development of strength and endurance. ** 4. Under the direction of the therapist, assists patients in ambulatory training procedures as assigned. ** 5. Performs/monitors selected procedures and/or programs which are commensurate with his/her training and are assigned to him/her by the therapist. ** 6. Assists in general cleanliness and orderly arrangement of the department. ** 7. Monitors levels of supplies, directs need for supplies to the attention of the Supervisor, and orders approved supplies via Lawson 8. Strips treatment tables of used sheets and pillow cases and replaces with clean covering. 9. Maintains appropriate levels of linen, and restocks linen as needed. 10. Cleans equipment following specified protocol in between each patient use. 11. Ensures safety and comfort of the patient while they are in the Rehab Services Department. 12. Maintains pool chemical levels on daily basis, vacuums pool once a week or more if necessary. 13. Verifies AED, eye wash station, and department equipment are in working order at the start of the day. 14. Manages cleaning ice pack, hydrocollator and paraffin machines on determined schedule. 15. Measures and records temperatures of hydrocollator, paraffin and refrigerator on determined schedule. 16. Assists with lymphedema evaluations and treatments as requested (if applicable to setting). 17. Places reminder phone calls to each new patient the day prior to their first appointment to provide directions, co-pay information, and to answer any questions. ** 18. Performs secretarial/clerical duties in the absence of the Rehab Secretary (with appropriate cross training) as directed, which include, but are not limited to the following: a. Answers telephone, takes and relays messages, and schedules patients with therapist's direction. b. Greets and directs visitors, patients, and family members of patients. c. Sets up patient charts for each new patient seen in Rehab Services. d. Demonstrates the ability to mail, fax and file paperwork appropriately. Sorts/distributes in-coming mail. e. Maintains accurate electronic schedule for all appointments. Adjusts the schedule to maximize therapist efficiency within the department. Tracks cancellations and no shows on the schedule appropriately. Assists therapists as needed with scheduling follow-up appointments. f. Assists therapists as needed with calling patients who do not show for their appointments to reschedule as requested. g. Monitors the arrival of patients for their appointments and informs therapists via intercom system and keeps therapists informed of calls. 19. The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed. 20. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position. 21. Provides age appropriate care to neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. 22. Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer’s needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health. Participates to improve scores. 23. It is understood that this job description lists typical duties for the classification and is not to be inclusive of all duties which may be assigned. EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in health field preferred, but not necessary. EXPERIENCE: One year but less than three. An on-the-job training program for the Rehab Services Technician may be established when there is a demonstrated need. CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Appreciable physical effort or strain; occasionally repetitive efforts may involve lifting, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift at least thirty (30) pounds independently and at least one-hundred fifty (150) pounds with assistance of another person. EXPOSURE CATEGORY: Category II. Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. Requirements
