The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", Department of Pediatrics has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Outreach Coordinator to work in Miami.

The Outreach Coordinator develops and implements public education and outreach programs. Creates, plans, prepares and implements a variety of programs to reach targeted populations. Acts as the point of contact for members of the community, promoting program awareness through marketing and advertising.

Plans promotional, educational, and other events to increase community awareness.

Researches and prepares reports, records, and other documentation to coordinate and implement public and outreach programs.

Responds to public inquiries about program(s).

Trains personnel to carry out an effective public education and outreach programs.

Distributes educational literature.

Documents daily activities and the number of contacts reached or served through outreach initiatives.

Maintains effective lines of communications with current and prospective clients to ensure program goals and objectives are met.

Promotes services offered to the targeted group.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions:

Responsible for establishing referral relationships with community providers, community partners, and families to improve the appropriateness of referrals to the Local Early Steps (LES)

Implements a structured county-wide outreach program to promote Early Steps services

Assists in developing and carries out activities identified in the LES’s Public Awareness and Child Find Plan

Records outreach activities and submits to Manager monthly

Identifies key community partners that serve the birth to three population

Creates an ongoing roster of community partners that make referrals to Early Steps

Ensures community partners have educational/public awareness materials

Informs referral sources of the requirement to make referrals as soon as possible but in no case more than seven calendar days after identifying a child who may have a developmental delay or an established condition

Participate in workshops and collaborative projects with other LESs

Collects referral information based on referral sources

Works closely with the Early Steps Family Resource Specialist to ensure coverage at community outreach events

Works closely with the Early Steps Intake Coordinator to received referrals 

Performs full registration of all new Early Steps referral.

Completes the Miami-Dade County Early Steps Program Passport for Referral to gather family information and critical data items required to register the family, including insurance/Medicaid 

Registers the patient’s information in the Florida Early Steps Data System in accordance with the steps outlined under the Early Steps Operational Procedures

Registers the patient’s information in UChart in accordance with the University of Miami guidelines. 

Schedules the Initial IFSP evaluation appointment to determine eligibility within the Florida mandated forty-five (45) days from receipt of referral

Provides copies of Miami-Dade County Early Steps Program Passport for Referral and Medicaid verification to fiscal team.

Prepares and mails the Early Steps introductory letter from the Program Coordinator with the initial appointment information as reminder to the family. With this letter, encloses material about the Early Steps Program and a map of the University of Miami Medical School campus.  

Creates and provides new charts with all required Early Steps documents along with copy of Miami-Dade County Early Steps Program Passport for Referral and Medicaid verification to assigned service coordinator. 

Reschedules Initial IFSP evaluation appointments by following appointment guidelines pertaining to overbooking, and scheduling

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:        

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience 

Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish or Creole language is preferred (reading, writing, speaking).

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Commitment to the University’s core values.

Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
