Job Description:

Supervise employees’ activities at the project site in accordance with schedules, budgets, plans, and pre-establish policies and procedures as directed by the superintendent.

General Requirements: Practice safety rules. Follow verbal and written instructions. Safe use of hand & power tools. Report to and assist immediate supervisor. Perform quality work as determined by project specifications. Accountable for all tools and materials at the end of your shift. Must work well as part of a team. Functional Requirements: Set daily work objectives that meet the goals of the schedule and communicate them to the crew while encouraging the crew’s input in the setting of the goals. Assist the supervisor in identifying and resolving quality control problems on job and plant sites. Assist in the interview and selection of new hires. Strive to meet the company’s EEO/AA goals by assisting management in hiring and identifying qualified minorities/females/veterans for employment, training, and/or promotion. Schedule and request needed personnel as indicated for timely project completion in conjunction with superintendent. Determine and recommend improvements in methods, schedules, and procedures where practical on the project Has authority to dismiss laborers and operators when necessary and in accordance with established company guidelines. Recommend changes in material suppliers and truckers, which must be coordinated by the superintendent. Assume responsibility for the quality of workmanship. Train laborers and craftsmen in the basic skills required to perform the tasks with minimum supervision. Inspect materials when delivered to ensure they comply with quality standards and specifications. Sign and code delivery tickets. Ensure material is delivered to the construction site per established agreements and in a timely fashion. Meet contract specifications and company quality standards. Maintain and encourage job safety. Review labor reports weekly. Report daily time of crew, equipment, and materials used, as well as quantities of work completed. Report any extra work, back charges to subcontractors, or delays caused by the owner, utility company, or others. Working knowledge of various construction disciplines, labor relations, cost control, scheduling, safety regulations, engineering drawings, and other documents. Ability to supervise and evaluate craft performance essential. Perform other related duties as required of the position or as assigned by supervision. Qualification Standards: Minimum of (2) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level). Entry-level to two (2) years of construction engineering or similar experience, preferable in a supervisory capacity. Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation. Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean-shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.). Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.). Physical Requirements: Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy. Must be able to pass a physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by the company. Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc. Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.). Able to carry 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs.  Check with your project supervisor or project safety director. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.) Must be clean-shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required. Work Environment: Location: industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shop Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: Uneven ground level Obstructed pathways Work performed at low and/or high elevations Work performed in confined areas Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: Predominately outdoor climate May be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather Excessive humidity, rain, etc. Various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc. Potential exposure to chemical substances
