Role Description
There is an exciting opportunity to join our successful Property & Casualty team as a “New Business Underwriter”, based in Maidstone. As an integral member of the team your focus will be on profitable growth and technical excellence in building a World class service. With ambitious growth targets for 2024 and beyond you will be a key team player helping us to reach our goals.
You must be able to proactively build long-term, sustainable business relationships in order to engender customer loyalty and achieve profitable growth in line with our ambition. Demonstrating consistently high standards of behaviour across all elements of the role, you will assist in supporting the national strategic objectives within the Region.
About You
We are looking for a self-motivated and talented individual to join our successful New Business Team in Maidstone. You will be part of a close-knit team that works well together, to consistently deliver strong results. We are looking for someone that has an excellent knowledge of the Property and Casualty market and experience in writing new and profitable business, but we would equally welcome applications from those with experience in any underwriting.
Your role will also include, developing broker relationships (including regular broker visits) and collaborating with your colleagues in other departments to support our ambitious growth plans.
Essential skills and experience:
Underwrite new business enquiries received by brokers, actively engage in prospecting activities to secure new business growth. Negotiate within authority and referring where appropriate to maximise customer growth including persuading, influencing and convincing customers of the benefits of an opposed course of action. Track record as a confident negotiator. Property, Casualty and speciality lines market/product awareness Strong technical underwriting skills in Commercial Property and Casualty. The ability to build, develop and maintain positive broker relationships. A good team player, supportive to others with an enthusiastic and positive attitude Highly customer focused with ability to build broker relationships. Good influencing and negotiation skills. Strong capability for team working. Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative Strong trading skills
Desirable skills and experience:
Provide suggestions to continuously improve the business in an ever-changing environment Support the wider teams by being proactive, enthusiastic and by challenging yourself to go out of your comfort zone Commitment to undertaking and progressing towards CII qualifications Good trading skills and a confident negotiator, with proven experience in handling large cases. Data analysis skills and ability to make recommendations and decisions. Strong collaboration skills.
