Cloud Engineering analyzes the financial, operational, and technical feasibility of adopting external cloud based IT software, platform and infrastructure services. This job family evaluates the costs and benefits of cloud, virtual private networks, dedicated housing, and in-house solutions and identifies portions of the organization’s IT infrastructure with the highest potential return for cloud deployment. Cloud Engineering also manages the implementation of cloud services and their integration with in-house applications and systems, coordinating with vendors and adhering to engineering best practices.
As an industry leader in enterprise cloud adoption, Cardinal Health is seeking a technology engineer to support and develop our maturing cloud infrastructure operating in IaaS and CaaS models. Our multi-cloud, multitenant environment is leveraged to run mission critical workloads at enterprise scale and is currently used by thousands of developers across hundreds of teams.
As a Cloud Engineer at Cardinal Health, your primary responsibility will be to design, deploy, and maintain containerized applications on the Tanzu and the GKE (Google Kubernetes Service) platform. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure that applications and systems are scalable, reliable, and secure.

Deploy and manage Kubernetes clusters and resources using infrastructure as Code and GitOps principles and practicesBuild, troubleshoot, and optimize containerized workloads in GKE, ensuring performance, cost-efficiency, and high availability across multi-zonal/regional clusters Automate infrastructure provisioning and updates with Terraform, integrating with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Cloud Build, Jenkins, Concourse) and GitOps tools (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux)Implement security controls (e.g., Pod Security Admission, Secrets Management with GCP Secret Manager) and ensure compliance with HIPAA, SOX and other regulationsCollaborate with DevSecOps/Application Security teams to integrate security into the SDLC, using tools like Aquasec or Trivy for container image scanningMonitor cluster health and application performance using Dynatrace, Prometheus, and GCP Cloud Monitoring/Logging, performing root cause analysis for incidentsConduct code reviews, establish coding standards, and ensure adherence to software development best practices within the teamEnforce platform governance using tools like Open Policy Agent (OPA), embedding observability and compliance into all solutionsAct as a technical liaison between the serverless platforms team and other organizations, translating business requirements into actionable technical solutionsStay current with cloud-native technologies and trends, contributing to Cardinal Health’s cloud strategyQualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, preferred or equivalent experience preferred 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, with 3+ years focused on Kubernetes and GCPProven track record managing enterprise-scale Kubernetes clusters (e.g., 50+ nodes, multi-region)Deep understanding of microservices, event-driven architectures, and distributed system Strong communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholdersExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in ambiguous or rapidly changing environmentsExperience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practicesAnticipated salary range: $121,600 - $173,700
