Grace is seeking a Chemical Operator to join our team! This role is located at our Pasadena, TX, facility.
The Chemical Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment and processes. This role involves monitoring and adjusting equipment, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring product quality. The Chemical Operator will work closely with team members to meet production goals and maintain a safe work environment.
Schedule: 12-hour, rotating shifts including days and nights, holidays, and weekends.
1. Week 1: 4 consecutive night shifts, then 3 days off
2. Week 2: 3 regular day shifts, off for 1 day, then 3 night shifts
3. Week 3: 3 days off, then 4 consecutive day shifts
4. Week 4: 7 days off
Physical Requirements and Environment Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft. Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator Responsibilities Operate Equipment: Safely operate and monitor manufacturing equipment according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), including DCS. Quality Control: Conduct regular quality checks to ensure products meet specifications and report any deviations. Maintenance: Perform preventative and routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment to minimize downtime, including lock out of equipment and issuance of safe work permits. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all plant environmental, health, safety, and process safety standards and procedures. Report hazards, deviations, and injuries in a timely manner. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of environmental and production data, equipment performance, and maintenance activities. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with team members to achieve production targets and support continuous improvement initiatives. Communicates plant status with relief and coworkers. Training: Participate in training programs to stay current with operational procedures and safety standards. Meet all training and progression requirements. Act as a safety leader. Comply with all plant environmental, health, safety, and process safety standards and procedures. Report hazards, deviations, and injuries in a timely manner. Technology – Utilize computers and systems for reporting and communication. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned that are equivalent in skill to job requirements. Transfer materials within the plant and pack out intermediate/finished products to the appropriate packaging. Record operating data/plant status, production sheets, catch samples, interpret results and respond with the appropriate adjustments to troubleshoot the process. Perform designated SAP transactions associated with managing raw materials, production and maintenance. Perform Emergency Response functions as needed. Work assigned overtime when needed.
Required Qualifications Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience: Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Shift: Employee must be willing and able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule including days and nights, holidays and weekends and overtime. Pre-employment: Employee must successfully pass a background check and drug screen prior to employment. Preferred Qualifications and Skills Education: Technical certification or associate degree in Process Technology or related field. Experience: Previous experience as an Operator in a chemical manufacturing environment. Advanced mechanical and troubleshooting skills. Proficiency with DCS Controls systems and specific manufacturing software or systems. Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma). Forklift license

Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of chemical safety standards, hazard identification, and strict adherence to safety protocols when handling hazardous materials and operating equipment and using personal protective equipment (PPE) in a chemical plant environment Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate and monitor chemical processing equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine maintenance. Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy in monitoring processes, maintaining records, and conducting quality checks. Reading, Writing, and Math: Basic reading and writing skills to understand and interpret chemical batch records, safety data sheets, and operational procedures. Basic math skills, including the ability to perform measurements, calculate ratios, and adjust formulas as required in chemical processing. Mechanical Aptitude and Troubleshooting Skills: A foundational understanding of chemical processing equipment (e.g., reactors, pumps, valves) with the ability to troubleshoot and operate machinery effectively. Basic Computer Skills: Proficiency in data entry and equipment monitoring using relevant software.
