University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a part-time Physician Assistant or Acute Care Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to support the Pediatric Neurosurgery department at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The Pediatric Neurosurgery APP is responsible for providing advanced clinical care to pediatric patients with neurological disorders. This role involves assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of neurosurgical conditions in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The APP will work under the supervision of pediatric neurosurgeons and will contribute to both preoperative and postoperative care, as well as ongoing patient management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Care: Conduct thorough evaluations of pediatric patients with neurological issues. Manage preoperative and postoperative care, including patient education, wound care, and pain management. Diagnostic Responsibilities: Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests such as MRI, CT scans, and electroencephalograms (EEGs), under the supervision of a neurosurgeon. Patient and Family Education: Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and postoperative care. Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team including neurosurgeons, pediatricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care. Research and Quality Improvement: Participate in research projects and quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and advancing the field of pediatric neurosurgery. The Staff APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Staff APP has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The Staff APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Staff APP encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Staff APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Staff APP begins to demonstrate a commitment to the community and to their healthcare profession.
