Summary:
The Pacemaker/ICD Tech assists in the examination and treatment of patients with bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias using cardiac device therapy. Performs interrogation and transtelephonic monitoring of pacemakers and defibrillators. Performs device testing and stimulation to ensure proper functionality. Notifies physician of abnormalities in device function, patient compliance issues, arrhythmia, and may make recommendations about additions and changes to medication regiments or device programming.
Experience/Education Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required.Some higher education preferred.Minimum of two years performing threshold testing and programming with pacemakers and ICDs.Knowledge of EKG principles, medical equipment and instruments, and CMS guidelines for device follow-up.License or Certification Requirements:
Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) certification preferred.Basic Life Support (BLS) required.ACLS preferred
Responsibilities:
Fulfills patient care responsibilities by providing a variety of remote checks, in-office interrogations and programming of implanted cardiac devices.Identifies device and/or lead issues and program to correct if possible.Identify patient who may need device upgrade, lead revision, generator change.Maintains accurate patient implant data in TCAVI database.Perform incision checks and follow-up instructions.Performs noninvasive (NIPS) study with the physician in the clinic setting.Performs other duties as required.Review and return to appropriate device company, quarterly follow-up reports to device registry.Reviews abnormal device checks with the physician or ACP.Scan reports into patient chart and complete EHR documentation.Schedules remote follow-up and calls patient after each remote transmission.

Linens and IV equipment (5#) carried approximately 15-20' from linen cart or nurses station to cath lab. Lead aprons are worn during all procedures weighing approximately 15-20#. Procedures can last up to 8 hours or more per shift.
