Our Packaging team in our Front Royal, VA site is hiring a co-op student to begin in the spring 2025 semester. During this co-op experience, you will:

Learn Axalta Front Royal plant safety rules.

Work with a Global Packaging Process Engineer, office is located in Front Royal, VA on a well-defined project related to active programs addressing new packaging development, manufacturing process improvements or current customer issues.

Prepare and present a report summarizing your project work. Presentations both in Front Royal, VA and final presentation in our Philadelphia, PA labs.

Create and update packaging specs as requested into the Axalta Global Packaging Component system across the US and across the globe. Familiarity with packaging specs will be an initial and significant focus.​Develop relationships with Axalta’s suppliers and procurement as requested, to obtain required spec information.

Obtain supplier drawings and specifications. Some of this may be in other than English.

Obtain supplier UN Certifications

Obtain photograph or photograph packaging

Format above into the Axalta Packaging Component format

Goal of a minimum 50 new packaging specs and 50 updated packaging specs during internship or co-op.

Become familiar with the other sources of packaging information within Axalta.

Provide packaging information from the Global Packaging Component system and other resources to Axalta suppliers, internal Axalta customers, and external Axalta customers as requested.

Become familiar with the packaging materials and packaging equipment within both Front Royal (by seeing) and other Axalta plants around the world (from specs and descriptions).

Trouble shoot packaging quality issues in Front Royal, VA, working with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and Packaging Engineer.

Be expected to perform your own work.

Have frequent opportunities for direct interaction with our internal manufacturing and marketing groups, as well as our external automotive customers

Participate in packaging plant trials in Front Royal, VA.

Collect and FedEx ship samples as requested.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be working towards an undergraduate or Master’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry

Candidates should have some understanding of basic organic and inorganic chemistry

Candidate should have a demonstrated ability to learn on the job. Be curious about all aspects of Axalta packaging and products.

Candidate should be an effective problem solver with strong analytical skills

Candidate should be results-oriented and a self-starter

Candidates should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Candidates should be proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Also, a familiarity with the packaging specific software that Axalta or our suppliers might have, such as AutoCAD, CAPE, TOPS, ArtiosCAD and/or Adobe art products

Candidates should have the ability to work in a team environment
