Position Summary
The role will design and test packaging solutions for Illumina consumables and instrument products, work cross functionally to establish packaging design and process requirements and executing to create scalable and sustainable packaging solutions. The position will span both New Product Introductions as well as sustaining and logistics activities as needed, with a focus on sustainability, supply continuity and cost savings.
Position Responsibilities
Consult with Supply Chain, Engineering & Production departments to determine the costs and feasibility of producing proposed packagingDevelop or co-develop sketches, specifications, samples, and written analyses of proposed packaging to present design for approvalDraft and perform packaging stability studies and review/write Work Instructions for existing and new productsDefine efficient packing procedures, innovations in packaging materials, specifications, test plans, and key performance indicators for high volume disposable productsConstruct and execute controlled experiments (including DOEs) and test plan for packaging materialWork cross functionally with Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Quality to optimize cost, yield and performance on packaging reliabilityInvolve in selection and qualification of critical suppliers for packaging and material changesPartnership with other departments to manage supplier production process/automation developmentWork with internal partners and critical suppliers, troubleshoot packaging issues related to yield, quality and throughputSupport sustaining and continuous improvements for packaging and consumables requirementsTeam member on project teams responsible for developing package systemsDesign and select primary, secondary and tertiary packaging components and suppliersWrite specifications and technical protocols/reports for primary, secondary and tertiary packaging components and associated qualifications and/or validationsCoordinate artwork/labeling developmentInterface with internal teams and external suppliers to conduct packaging testing (including shipping validations) of packaging materials and packaged componentsDevelop and implement applicable procedures and work instructions for development aspects of packagingDevelop cold chain management systems including qualification and specificationsListed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Position Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or a related fieldMinimum 2 years of related experience in various packaging materials and an understanding of their characteristics, handling and safety requirementsExperience in managing multiple packaging projects in a cross-functional environmentExperience in biotech or medical device or high volume manufacturing in a high-tech consumables industry is desiredKnowledge of industry regulations such as ISO13485, FDA and QSRMicrosoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Access etc)Good inter-departmental communication skills and documentation & reporting skills are requiredExcellent organizational skills and result orientedStrong team player with cross functional skill setProficiency in AutoCAD, Solid Works creating product package design and mechanical modeling will be added advantage.All listed requirements are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodation for additional tasks and responsibilities.
