Packaging Engineering/Sr. Packaging Engineering Technologist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Packaging Engineering/Sr. Packaging Engineering Technologist to oversee the daily operations of our packaging testing laboratory. You will lead a team of technicians and ensure that all packaging materials and products meet the required safety, quality, and performance standards. The Packaging Engineering/Sr. Packaging Engineering Technologist will play a key role in developing testing protocols, analyzing results, and ensuring compliance with both domestic and international testing standards, including ISTA (International Safe Transit Association), ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), ISO (International Organization for Standardization), and other relevant guidelines.

This is an onsite role based out of our Eagan, MN office.

What You Will Do

Supervise daily operations of the packaging testing laboratory, including scheduling, resource management, and workflow optimization.

Develop, implement, and monitor testing procedures to evaluate the durability, quality, and performance of packaging materials and products.

Ensure the laboratory follows international packaging and material testing standards such as ISTA, ASTM, ISO, and other relevant regulatory guidelines.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Quality Assurance, and Production to support packaging design, development, and improvement.

Train and mentor lab technicians on testing methodologies, equipment usage, and proper safety protocols.

Review, interpret, and analyze test results, identifying areas for improvement or non-compliance, and recommend corrective actions.

Maintain lab equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.

Stay up to date on the latest packaging materials, technologies, and global testing standards, implementing necessary updates within the lab.

Prepare detailed reports and documentation for internal teams and external stakeholders.

Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the lab environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree

Three (3) years of lab environment experience

Experience leading a team

Experience working with international packaging and material testing standards e.g. ISTA, ASTM, ISO

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science or Engineering, Engineering, or Materials Science

Three (3) years of packaging or materials lab environment experience

Experience with UN/DOT hazardous materials testing

Proficient in using lab equipment, data analysis software, and testing protocols related to packaging performance

Experience in the consumer goods, medical devices, or chemical packaging, industry

Certification or training related to international packaging standards and testing methodologies

Experience in FDA/GMP Practices, GDP practices, ISO 9001, 17025 or general quality system management.

Familiarity with sustainability and eco-friendly packaging materials

Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills

Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Strong problem-solving skills with an analytical mindset

Knowledge of packaging materials, including plastics, cardboard, and composites
