Packaging Operator
The Packaging Operator is responsible for placing products safely and effectively in appropriate packages, keeping up with product output, maintaining a smooth and timely production line and ensuring the packaging equipment stays in good working condition. The Packaging Operator is also responsible for
understanding all positions and roles on the packaging line, stepping in to fill those positions as needed and provides ongoing communications to assure that everyone is aware of and prepared for the work of the shift. All procedures and practices used are grounded in standards, regulations and laws addressing food safety and food quality, as well as environmental safety in accordance with Safe Quality Food (SQF) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Trains for and is prepared to support any position on the packaging line as neededObserves the flow of the packaging line and identifies where help is needed stepping in to any position to provide support or relieve for breaksUnderstands and prepares for the specific film to be used that shift based on orders being runUnderstands the packaging equipment being used and how to adjust when needed. Identifies packaging defects quickly and makes adjustments immediatelyChecks all packages for correct dates, codes, weights and cut lines and intervenes immediately with machine adjustments as neededManages film changeovers quickly and assures that the production line continues to run smoothly and efficiently with no unnecessary delaysPrepares for the scheduled product by pulling appropriate corrugate, scanning to correct PSA and any necessary materials and staging in the packaging area; upon completion of material usage; count, verify, and re-print Handling Units (HU) before returning materials to correct binResponsible of generating Handling Units (HU), and scanning and validating through SAPUsing SAP scanning and validating film usageCommunicates routinely with the Production Supervisor providing feedback on the how the work is progressing and any impending issues or concernsParticipates in overseeing the quality of the products being seasoned and packagedMaintains an understanding of the production schedule for each shift and how it influences the work to be doneKeeps work environment clean, safe. Performs all plant cleaning and sanitation activities on all equipment and in all departments following both safety and quality procedures, policies, and rules and in accordance with the standards, regulations and laws governing food safety, food quality 
and environmental safety regulations and monitors and accurately documents all work completed. This includes midweek and end of the week production cleaningAssists production with packaging, palletizing, and other duties, as neededSupports the implementation and monitoring of food safety and food quality standards, regulations, and laws. Notifies leaders if there are any concerns or opportunities for improvementAssure the implementation of all identified food quality and food safety standards, laws, good manufacturing practices, training and continuous improvementPrimary focus of all business-related efforts are and must remain that of promoting excellence in all productsRemains current in training expectationsRecords and documents according to proceduresOther duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE 

Requires education generally equivalent to a high school diplomaRequires a minimum of three years of progressive work experience with machine operation, preferably in the food products industry; one year in a Winland Foods production area experience preferredRequires an understanding of packaging machine operations, box erecting, case packing, palletizing, and all other production functionsRequires strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft programs such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutlookRequires the development of a working knowledge of food safety and food quality standards and regulations such as SQF and environmental safety regulations along with a commitment to continuous improvementRequires basic mathematical skills to be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide and make fine adjustments in equipment settings.Team player works well with others and communicates effectively with all associates.Requires effective and clear written and oral communication skills fluent in English to clearly communicate with other team members

Work Environment: 
The employee works indoors in a production environment. Additionally, the incumbent will work near moving mechanical parts, and in high places. He/she will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
