Scope

The Packaging & Technology Manager role is the leader of a team of skilled Technical Engineers focused on innovation, development and continuous improvement of CooperVision strategic packaging technologies and secondary packaging platforms. This position serves as the Technology Lead for the local Packaging Operation, accountable for the introduction of equipment in support of the Global Packaging technology roadmap.

Job Summary – What to expect:

In this position, you will use lean and six sigma knowledge to drive forward technical solutions in Secondary Packaging and Distribution (where appropriate). You will manage the execution of highly complex packaging related projects through their Life Cycle, including (but not limited to) Capacity expansion, Equipment and/or Process Development, Integration of one or several major equipment (automation/high volume) within an existing product, development of new product/process.

You will be accountable for the delivery of advanced automation technology to support the business requirements of Global Packaging and Distribution Operations (where appropriate). Responsible for management, co-ordination, and completion of projects by performing a variety of tasks that include setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, monitoring progress and summarizing results while supporting global regulatory requirements and process/design improvements while identifying risks, issues and developing resolutions. Utilize Project Management knowledge to lead technical team in the implementation of key projects while managing a team of Project Managers and Engineers.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities

Manages a team that creates, executes, and manages project work plans in support of business objectives. Ensures necessary resources are available to support global priorities and initiatives. Responsible for overall staffing, planning, training, and employee relations to achieve business objectives and key performance indicators. Responsible for support and development of a team of engineers. Applies leadership skills, technical expertise, lean and six sigma tools to guide project teams to drive process optimization throughout the organization. Coordinates with other departments to identify and prioritize projects to achieve operational excellence. Collaborate with project stakeholders cross functionally to define and deliver on agreed upon milestones. Proactively anticipate challenges, provide and support necessary escalations, and reprioritize activities as required. Uses project management tools to structure projects and teams to ensure successful and timely delivery. Track project portfolio milestones and deliverables. Develops and delivers project status reports. Conduct project review meetings and participate in global forums to support strategic direction and initiatives. Communicate to Leadership with project updates, global resource requirements, and Capital spend requirements. Ensure lessons learned are conducted and make on-going recommendations for improvement. Lead efforts for robust and compliant validations in support of the CooperVision QMS and strategic requirements. Support the development of the packaging technology roadmap for the Packaging and Distribution sites to support future growth. Consistently explore cutting edge packaging technology that could be implemented to maintain the competitiveness of the packaging operations from cost, efficiency, and quality perspective. Promote a global approach and standardization for the packaging processes and packaging equipment across all packaging sites. Partner and support senior leadership to continually develop and revise the strategic technology roadmap. Coordinate and manage outside vendors when necessary to support key projects. Reacts to the LRSP to understand growth of the business, identify opportunities for change and business risks (process capacity, layout constraints etc.) Advanced data collection and analysis for process mapping, budget development and cost analysis to determine project feasibility. Perform (multi-million dollar) capital equipment justifications through data analysis and submit CES’s with proper ROI’s. Coaches, mentors, and provides general support/leadership to the organization on the use of Lean and Six Sigma tools. Guide the development of operational procedures and guidelines where necessary.

Travel Requirements

10%-15% domestic and international travel, as required.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong ability to lead, coach and train cross-functional personnel. Strong math, analytical, problem solving and project management skills. Demonstrated abilities to present information to variety of technical and non-technical audiences at different levels of the organization, facilitation, and conflict management. High level of competence dealing with conflicts and priorities with multidisciplinary teams. Comprehensive knowledge of quality & regulatory requirements for medical device packaging. Possess a collaborative style to work efficiently throughout the organization. Be highly organized and diligent with follow-through.

Work Environment

Normal office environment. Ability to perform light to medium physical work and standing for long periods of time, if required depending on the task. Travel to other global sites when required. To support the 24/7 business, may require employee to attend sites outside standard working hours.

Experience

8 - 10 years of packaging related work experience in a regulated industry, preferably in both high and low volume mix model production. Minimum of 5 years project management experience. Experience working in a global organization and with geographically dispersed colleagues and stakeholders. 2 – 5 years leadership experience required with demonstrated ability to lead others, specifically technical and project teams.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in an industrial engineering field required. Master’s degree is a plus. Experience in an Engineering and Project Management role. Project management certificate a plus. Six sigma and lean certifications are a plus.
