Job Summary:
The Packing Manager is responsible for scheduling and managing the time and responsibilities of Packing Employees ensuring customer orders are prepared on time, in the required quantity, type, and quality necessary to meet customer expectations as cost efficiently as practicable.
Essential Functions:
· Observes and analyses packing department operations and procedures to develop and implement process improvements, and identify and eliminate wasteful or inefficient practices.
· Work with sales and growers to predict quantity and type of ordered mushrooms versus availability.
· Ensure effective SOPs are in place for all packing positions and ensure employees are trained and comply with established SOPs.
· Maintain Company / Employee relations and insuring all employees are treated in a fair and equitable manner. Coordinate with HR staffing needs, hiring, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating packing employees.
· Ensure employees receive requisite training to perform the essential functions of their job.
· Direct & coach Supervisors with respect to production volume, cost, quality, employee relations, and meeting production schedules and delivery times.
· Assure economical utilization and scheduling of packing employees necessary to meet customer expectations.
· Coordinate efforts with other departments to achieve the highest overall company efficiency possible.
· Explore and make recommendations regarding mechanizing various packing operations.
· Develop and maintain production records measuring efficiency of each packing area.
· Coordinate repairs, modifications and PMs with maintenance as required to ensure optimum equipment utilization.
· Coordinate with QC to build a team of production supervisors and quality inspectors to working together to achieve optimum efficiency while maintaining customer satisfaction.
· Hold employees accountable who fail to comply with company policies, food safety requirements, safety standards and good housekeeping practices.
· Meet regularly with department supervisors to communicate needs, assist with issues, and provide direction.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual in Spanish / English preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
Familiarity with Inventory systems such as SAP and Produce Pro.
Fine attention to detail.
Ability to generate and analyze reports to identify problems and tends. Make well-reasoned recommendations based on analysis.
Work history showing progressive responsibility.
Ability to manage / lead a team of employees.
Excellent time management skills.
Ability to effectively plan and prioritize.
Knowledge of the mushroom industry, OSHA regulations, and Food Safety standards.
Ability to remain calm during periods of high stress, or when something unpredictable occurs.
