Compensation: $22.73 to $26.71 per hour

JOB PURPOSE:   Performs painting, drywall repair and performs construction repairs in various phases of projects and related work.

This position description may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found or assigned to this position.

JOB DUTIES:

§  Performs repairs on drywall.

§  Installs drywall on ceiling and walls on the interior of buildings.

§  Tapes seams using compound, and covers nails and corners.

§  Applies texture to walls according to the needs of the client.

§  Uses machine or rollers to paint surfaces with a matte or glossy paint.

§  Applies stucco or paint to the exterior of buildings.

§  Performs major and minor painting within expertise.

§  Prepares project site by taping and masking before painting and ensures project clean-up is completed at end of project or day.

§  Assists with moving of equipment and furniture within housing projects.

§  Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

§  Accesses needed repair and/or rental service that is competent and fairly priced.

§  Keeps all supplies and equipment in a safe and well-controlled area.

§  Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:     N/A

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

§  Two years residential or commercial painting experience.

§  Valid New Mexico driver’s license with the ability to meet Pueblo of Isleta liability insurance requirements and maintain eligibility for insurance.

§  Must pass background check for position.

§  Must be able to comply with the Pueblo of Isleta Drug Free Workplace policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

§  Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, agency policies, tools, basic math, blueprints and sketches.

§  Knowledge of standard construction safety practices and procedures.

§  Knowledge of appropriate methods and techniques applicable to the painting and drywall trade.

§  Knowledge of the standards, codes and specifications common to the trade.

§  Skill in painting and drywall work.

§  Skill in the use of standardized and common equipment and tools.

§  Skill in the safe operation of power tools and shop equipment.

§  Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.

§  Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

§  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

§  Ability to prepare records and reports.

§  Ability to supervise and instruct unskilled workers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

§  Work involves a significant amount of standing, walking, bending, kneeling and or crouching.

§  Work involves using hands to handle objects, equipment, controls and reach with arms and hands. 

§  Work involves climbing and balancing.

§  Position requires frequent lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

§  Work is performed indoors and outdoors.

§  Noise level is usually minimal indoors and loud in construction sites.

§  Exposure to environmental conditions such as weather conditions, dust, mists, insects, fumes, etc. may occur.

§  Exposure to chemicals and paint fumes may occur.

§  Work requires use of safety equipment, safety-toe shoes, respirator, goggles, gloves, harnesses, helmet, protective face shields and/or hardhats.

§  Evening, weekend, and emergency work may be required.

§  Travel may be required.

PREFERENCE:

Tribal and Native American Indian preference shall apply to all positions at Pueblo of Isleta.
