The Painter is responsible for mixing, matching, and applying paint to various surfaces, completing touchups, and coordinating large painting projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Applies paint to surfaces including canvas, walls, floors, doors, and cabinets. Mixes, matches, and applies paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, and other finishes. Cleans walls to ensure proper adherence and scrapes, sandpapers, primes, or seals surfaces prior to painting. Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives. Erects scaffolding, movable and immovable staging, and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas. Moves furniture and equipment as necessary. Removes fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting. Calculates amounts of required materials and estimate costs. Selects and buys paint from vendors. Cleans up all equipment, including brushes and spray guns. Utilizes spray guns for large jobs. Works on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED
Must have five (5) years of experience in commercial building painting.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Working conditions include dirty environment, extreme temperatures, lifts or carries heavy objects.
