Applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, enamels or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of the hospital, using paintbrushes, rollers, scrapers and blowtorches. Smoothes surfaces, using sandpaper, wire brushes or steel wool and removes old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scrapes, wire brushes or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting. Fills nail holes, cracks and joints with putty plaster or other filler.
ResponsibilitiesPaints surfaces, using brushes, spray gun or paint roller. Simulates wood grain, marble, brick or tile effects. Creates special effects by applying paint. Places cloth or canvas over floors and furniture to protect them from spattered paint.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). Trade or vocational school graduate or one year's experience as a painter; or 1 or 3 years as a painter's helper is considered desirable. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
