**Purpose/Introduction**
Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a PAO Research Chemist to join our Research and Technology team located in Kingwood, Texas. The PAO Research Chemist will be responsible for establishing, designing, and executing strategic independent research projects in support of the company's worldwide Poly Alpha Olefins (PAO) business. \#HPCP
**Responsibilities**
Participating in and leading technical programs involving next generation catalyst design, synthesis, and evaluation utilizing bench scale batch and continuous reactor systems. Further, support of scale up programs and operations will be expected. In addition to research projects, the successful candidate will provide plant and/or customer technical support, as needed. A core component of the role is to develop intellectual property via the filing of patent applications. Further, participation in research and technology safety programs will be expected.
The successful candidate will be part of the broader NAOPAO Technology team and must communicate effectively in oral presentations and written documents at all levels of the company. Communication skills will also involve interactions with external customer and industry contacts. The individual must also be able to work effectively with other researchers, technicians, business colleagues, plant personnel, and customers.

**Required Qualifications**
+ Do you currently have or are you on track to obtain a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering by August 2025?
+ Strong commitment to safety
+ Must be able to develop and lead independent research projects
+ Must have excellent interpersonal skills
+ Must be able to communicate effectively to all levels of an organization
+ Ability to work within short deadlines for several stakeholders
+ A drive to work in the laboratory setting
+ Ability to work with a diverse team including analysts, plant, business, and R&T personnel
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience or knowledge of lubricants, lubricant formulation, and/or tribology
+ At least 3 years of industry experience
+ Experience with Group III, III+, IV, and V based oils/lubricants
+ Understanding of base stock production methodology such as hydrocracking, hydroisomerization, hydrotreating, olefin oligomerization, or ester production
+ Experience with acid catalysis, heterogeneous, homogeneous, or both
+ Desire to provide technical support to customer and plant personnel
+ Process development experience
+ Experience working with hazardous chemicals
+ Experience with synthesis and characterization of metallocene's, single site catalysts, ligands, or general organic synthesis
+ Self-driven with high degree of initiative and time management skills
+ Must be highly organized, flexible, and capable of adapting to priority changes
+ Experience with electronics, computers, and immersion cooling technologies
