Paper Machine Shift Supervisor #1 Machine - Covington, VA CAREER OPPORTUNITY Our foremen are responsible to keep our facilities running safely, smoothly, and efficiently. This role is responsible for managing the safety of each individual as well as the manufacturing process that can interface with other departments to troubleshoot operational and quality issues. HOW YOU WILL IMPACT WESTROCK * Be an active participant in the safety program and promote involvement from crew members at all times driving safe work behaviors * Responsible for production and quality results on your shift. * Lead, train, and develop each member of your qualified crew, and ensure that departmental training material is up to date * Responsible for the maintenance of the paper machine on your shift (managing daily and emergency break in work), routinely reviewing all equipment, processes, and housekeeping in your area * Immediate reporting of any environmental issues or violations * Become an impactful problem solver in helping to determine the root causes of customer problems * Work with the safety department to conduct root cause analysis on safety and equipment to help not only our department but the organization * Promote and participate in rapid action teams to help implement sustainable improvement projects WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED * Eight to ten years of paper machine operations experience preferred, Bachelors degree in engineering preferred, supervisory experience preferred * Strong leadership and decision-making skills * Ability to engage and coach crew members on more efficient operating techniques and new technology and equipment * Analytical and diagnostic problem-solving skills, High level of energy and strong team player * Flexibility to work rotating 12-hour shifts and extra days when needed Additional Job Duties * Train employees on proper PPE and use, and conduct proper LOTO * Hourly payroll in the Kronos system * Break board management on sheet breaks * Fill out daily notes in Ekho * Enter work orders in SAP and contact maintenance for repairs * Communicate with other departments during upset conditions * Use of the PI system and DNA for trending and troubleshooting purposes * Ensure that all checklists are being understood and filled out entirely for ISO compliance Smurfit Westrock (NYSE:SW) is a global leader in sustainable paper and packaging solutions.
