The Smurfit Westrock Paper Mill in West Point, VA is currently seeking a Shift Supervisor for the Paper Mill departments. This position is responsible for assisting with resolving daily operational issues, assisting with employes safety oversight during daily high risk tasks, and assisting with housekeeping efforts in Paper Mill and WWTP. This position will also be responsible for supervising four (4) shift foreman and selecting and training any new shift foreman and any potential fill in foreman.
HOW YOU WILL IMPACT SMURFIT WESTROCK:
Responsible for demonstrating safety leadership, maintaining safe work practices in both departments, and promoting safety engagement with all crew members to eliminate safety incidents.Delivers environmental excellence and compliance with both the letter and the spirit of the law. Supports all environmental initiatives and programs.Responsible for the development, operational knowledge, and personal management skills of the shift foreman.Responsible for selecting and training all setup and fill foreman from the hourly and salaried ranks.Will support the training of employees in new roles as well as new employees to the mill.Initiates and supports safety, environmental, and quality incident investigations.Supports the execution of planned outages in both departments. Responsible for assisting with maintaining housekeeping in all areas.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field with 5+ years relevant experience or High School diploma/GED and 10+ years related experience. Working knowledge in most of these programs: EPAM, PI, Outlook Email, Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Office to include Word, and Excel with the ability to learn new applications.Strong interpersonal and leadership skillsExcellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to simplify process and procedures when communicating.Excellent problem solving and analytical and hazard recognition skills. The ability to make decisions based on alarm or upset process conditions that may be critical in preventing major breakdowns.Excellent planning, organizational, time management and prioritization skillsAbility to select and properly use personal protective equipment according to the specific hazard or hazards in accordance with Company and department requirements.Leadership and Motivational SkillsPrevious work experience in a unionized location is preferred.Previous Pulp and Paper supervisory experience is preferred.Ability to work rotating 8-hour shift to fill openings in the shift foreman’s position.
