CAREER OPPORTUNITY:  

As the Papermill Superintendent, you will have overall responsibility for the personnel, safety, environmental impact, quality, cost, and performance for the three Paper Machines and recycle plant at the West Point Mill. In this position you will lead and coordinate efforts and activities utilizing your knowledge and experience to achieve key performance metrics that support overall mill goals.  

 

 

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT SMURFIT WESTROCK:

Lead and direct papermill daily operations in a safe and effective manner to achieve safety, environmental, quality, production, and cost goals.Safety – Partner with Plant Safety Manager to maintain and enforce the safety systems for the department, ensuring compliance with OSHA and WestRock regulations and guidelines.Safety – Lead department resources to drive a highly motivated and engaged safety culture that focuses on ownership, accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.Environmental – Manage environmental efforts to ensure compliance with regulations and permit requirements, including but not limited to fiber loss, spills, and water usageQuality/Customer Satisfaction – Manage quality efforts to ensure product performance meets customer expectations and adherence to ISO program requirements, while minimizing paper machine waste.Quality/Customer Satisfaction – Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product qualityProduction/Reliability – Coordinate production activities with production planning, maintenance, and quality control to obtain optimum production and utilization of personnel, machines, and equipmentProduction/Reliability – Partner with mill Maintenance and Reliability groups to support efficient troubleshooting, planning, and execution of routine repairs in papermill Production/Reliability – Ensure team is coordinating the planning, scheduling, and execution of mill maintenance outages for stock prep, paper machine, and winder areasProduction/Reliability – Provide input and oversight for annual outage planning and coordination, ensure the annual outage for papermill is completed on time and within budgetProduction/Reliability – Coordinate with Logistics on production schedules and revisions because of equipment failure, operating problems, or last-minute customer demandsCost/Financial Results – Drive the development of annual budgets and standards for cost measurement in the Papermill.Cost/Financial Results – Review and analyze production reports to determine opportunity areas and implement solutions for production problems and nonconformity with product specifications.People Development – Lead and manage to support the mill vision, cultural change process, and strategic approach to improve operational and human performancePeople Development – Lead and manage employee accountability and labor relations in accordance with Divisional and Corporate policies and procedures and with direct and indirect reports through coordination and consultation with Human Resources.People Development – Determine training needs and support training programs for salaried and hourly employees People Development – Supervise the department production supervisors, ensuring execution of employee training and developmentPeople Development – Establish individual and group goals, evaluate work performance for direct reports, and review and approve performance evaluations for indirect reportsCapital Execution – Lead strategic planning processes for the department, including 5-year capital plan, continuous improvement activities, and Management of Change projects.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

High School diploma or G.E.D.Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is preferredMust have minimum of 7 to 10 years of pulp/paper mill experience5 + years of direct supervisory experience on paper machines required2 + years managing technical, salary employees preferred.Experience implementing safety initiativesProven track record of leadership and project management skills leveraged to enable employees to achieve goals and objectives Strong communication and interpersonal skills leveraged to motivate stakeholders and achieve alignment across the organizationAbility to manage complex manufacturing processes and drive continuous improvement.
