The Parachute Flight Simulation Engineer will\:
Develop and maintain parachute flight simulation software. Analyze flight simulations & mission data related to Parachute Assembly Systems. Perform 3-DOF and 6-DOF Monte Carlo analyses using spacecraft simulations to determine flight performance under various operating conditions. Perform flight mechanics / aerodynamic reconstruction and analysis of parachute drop test data for purposes of validating parachute simulation tools Utilize Python, MATLAB, and Julia skills in analyses Perform independent verification and validation activities. Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Experience with aerodynamic and flight mechanics modeling and analysis Significant experience with Python Significant experience with Matlab and/or Julia Significant experience with applied statistics Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and various contractor employees.Requisition Preferences\:
BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years of direct engineering experience, or an MS degree from an accredited engineering school and three (3) years of direct engineering experience, or a Ph.D. MS or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering Experience developing engineering level models based on flight or wind-tunnel data Experience with loads/margins analysis for textiles Experience with generic parachute performance Experience conducting imagery analysis Experience with NASA/TRICK simulation environment.
