What Success Looks Like In This Job
Provides high-level support in case management, research, and documentation, in performing essential case management support for attorneys within the District Attorney’s Office.
Examples of Duties for Success
+ Assist attorneys with felony and misdemeanor case preparation and case management, including records, exhibit and witness management.
+ Support attorneys throughout the pendency of a case from preliminary hearing through trial.
+ Perform complex audio/video redactions and prepare media for trial use.
+ Collaborates with victim advocates on testimony and trial preparation and coordinates witness appearance and travel.
+ Manages trial presentation software, creates PowerPoint presentations, and organizes necessary media equipment.
+ Responds to inquiries from attorneys, law enforcement, witnesses, and the public.
+ Drafts and files pleadings and composes general correspondence.
+ Assists with other duties or special projects as assigned.
To be successful, our candidate should have the following knowledge, skill, and abilities:
+ Knowledge of legal terminology and legal documentation format sufficient to be able to read, interpret, and prepare legal documents.
+ Thorough knowledge of legal processes in a district attorney’s office. Skill in reading, interpreting, and applying legal documents.
+ Excellent organizational skills and strong work ethic.
+ Strong commitment to working with a team and demonstrated ability to collaborate and effectively work with other employees, supervisors, and the public.
+ Ability to work with attorneys and provide a high-quality work product to assist them in successfully performing their responsibilities and prosecuting cases.
+ Knowledge of office practices and procedures sufficient to be able to organize and maintain files, records, and schedules and to obtain and/or relay information and process documents in a timely manner.
+ Skill in examining documents for completeness and accuracy.
+ Skill in prioritizing, coordinating and scheduling work to allow for efficient and effective completion of work assignments.
+ Strong communication skills.
+ Strong critical thinking skills and ability to adapt in a high-stress environment.
+ Ability to work independently and exercise sound and professional judgment, sometimes under stressful and sensitive conditions.
+ Must have ability to work in a standard office environment and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs: MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, as well as the ability to master internal District Attorney legal software, such as ACTION.

Qualifications for Success
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
+ Three (3) years of paralegal or legal support experience in a legal office.
+ Type 60-70 w.p.m. with accuracy.
+ Primarily sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public.

The 17thJudicial District Attorney’s office serves both Adams and Broomfield Counties. As such, this position may require travel between the Broomfield office and the Brighton Office.
Education: Paralegal Certificate from a college or technical school; preferably containing classes and coursework in criminal law. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
