Paralegal Specialist
Summary About the Position: Serves as a Paralegal Specialist in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate (OSJA) for the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command, (USACIDC). Works under the technical supervision of the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA), Deputy Staff Judge Advocate (DSJA), and Chief Paralegal. Performs paralegal work in support of assigned areas or issues and applies laws, regulations, precedents, and agency practices. Responsibilities Perform extensive legal research on significant legal issues to USACIDC in the areas of criminal law and administrative law. Perform research work requiring a thorough knowledge of how to navigate the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), regulations, statutes and rulings of administrative agencies, but not requiring admission to the bar. Review current legislation, regulations, directives and decisions of various military courts and administrative bodies for the purpose of keeping USACIDC abreast of the current state of the law. Perform preliminary coordination as needed with higher headquarters, other agencies, and installations or regional offices. Serve as the primary point of contact for requests for legal support from the Forensic Exploitation Department and the Biometric Operations Department. Research statutory law, case law, and regulations; and drafts documents. Specialized experience is defined as: Providing legal assistance to personnel and attorneys, performing research and analysis on legal issues, and administering work of assigned personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service, GS-11. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accountability Legal, Government, and Jurisprudence Research Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
