What you will do: + A Paralegal Specialist in the Circuit Administration Legal Office is responsible for a variety of legal and paralegal functions, which requires a thorough working knowledge of departmental structure and related legal activities. The person must also have the experience and knowledge to assist attorneys in the preparation and handling of cases. + Prepares legal documents such as petitions, motions, notices and orders for the attorney's review and signature' assists the attorney with the drafting of said documents if necessary. + Attends, trials, hearings, depositions and witness interviews as requested by the attorney assists the attorney by taking notes and performs other duties as requested. Attends Court and writes down information regarding the cases on the docket. + Schedules hearings and witness interviews for the attorney. Advises appropriate parties of upcoming hearings and keeps them informed of Court decisions. + Acts as liaison with judicial staff, Department staff, other attorneys and their secretaries, law enforcement officers and agencies, doctors, nurses and other hospital personnel, mental health professionals, other agencies, the public and clients in a respectful and courteous manner. + Prepares subpoenas for attorney's review and signature, forwards subpoenas to process server or appropriate law enforcement agency for service, and monitors and insures the timely service of process on witnesses. + Opens case files, assists the attorney with maintaining case files and court calendars. + Receives and routes telephone calls, answers basis questions regarding cases and provides general information to client and the public. + Other duties as assigned.
