Job Description Summary:

Candidates can be considered for any status (full time, part time, registry, team builder), shift, and location (Madison, Dyer, Benton, Chester, McNairy).

Responsible for basic and advanced emergency medical care in the transportation and treatment of sick and injured patients. Under the general supervision of the Director and the direct supervision of the Shift Manager, the Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic is responsible for emergency care of patients transported on assigned shifts, with flexible schedules. Completion of EMT-Paramedic training at a program certified by the State of Tennessee is required. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital. Employee is subject to random drug screenings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Determine the extent of illness or injury by performing patient assessment, recognize and interpret vital signs and other symptoms, report findings to an authorized Emergency Department/Trauma Center Registered Nurse and/or physician, and request orders for appropriate treatment protocol.Administer basic and advanced trauma and cardiac life support procedures to the sick and injured at the scene and en route to a hospital. Maintains basic and advanced clinical skills as deemed appropriate by scope of practice and departmental / organizational standards.Establishes radio communication with hospital Emergency Department/Trauma Center receiving the patient to advise them of the situation.Assists in extrication of victims from damaged motor vehicles and hostile environments.Record and enter patient data and other information on appropriate forms and logs.Perform duties as assigned in daily operation of quarters, involving patients, vehicles, department and equipment, following policies, procedures, and operating instructions.Report activities to the Shift Manager including unusual occurrences and complaints from patients, families, physicians, or employees.Maintain controlled substance records on assigned unit and shift.Assist with patient care duties in the Emergency Room/Trauma Center as requested or required for further training.Attends all required department education meetings.Participate in the clinical education of EMS students as needed.Contribute to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department and hospital, perform related responsibilities as required or directed and greet guest in accordance to our Guest Excellence principles.Performs related responsibilities as required and directed within defined scope of practice.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Completion of EMT-Paramedic training at a program certified by the State of Tennessee is required.Tennessee State approved Vent certification or completion within the first six months of employment.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

Current State Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic.Current Class D Tennessee Driver’s License.Current Basic, Advanced and Pediatric Advanced Life Support card from American    Heart Association or equivalent or obtained within the orientation period.(*** Note that this requirement for ACLS and/or PALS only will be extended for up to four (4) months post hire date while social distancing practices are in place due to COVID-19)Current State of Tennessee Vent Transport certification or completion of Vent training within twelve (12) months of employment.

EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge of local hospitals and Medical Center EMS policies, procedures, standing orders, protocols, area locale, radio communication procedures, emergency and medical agencies, pharmacology, admixtures, solutions and concentrations as acquired through a minimum of 4-6 week orientation program and at the discretion of the Director.  The operation and maintenance of equipment and vehicles as acquired through an orientation program

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts, and techniques of the EMS profession as normally acquired through the completion of a certified EMT-Paramedic program.Knowledge of policies and procedures of the hospital and completion of skills check sheet for designated areas as acquired through 3 month probationary period.Basic computer skills preferred.
