Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Paramedic –Emergency Department Care Technician works under the direction of a RN to care for patients within the Emergency Department.   This individual will room patients, taking vital signs, initiating intravenous lines, drawing blood, performing 12-lead EKGs, applying splints, assisting with procedures and patient monitoring.  The Paramedic – Emergency Department works in a team environment to provide necessary care to our patients and their families and may assist in other clinical departments as assigned under the direction of the RN.

WORK SHIFT

This position will work 36 hours every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will be paid an additional 18 hours of Baylor pay. In the Weekend/Baylor program, employees are required to work 36 hours from Friday at 6:00 am to Monday at 8:00 am.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: Graduate of a paramedic program.

Preferred/Optional: Associates degree in paramedicine.

EXPERIENCE 

Minimum Required: Proficient with reading, writing and speaking English.

Preferred/Optional: Experience as a paramedic.  Proficient with reading, writing and speaking in alternate languages.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES 

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position.  Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications provided by the American Heart Association. Current Applicable State Paramedic license. Current driver’s license with acceptable record may be required (varies by department/location).
