Education
Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associate Degree
Credentials/Licensure/Certifications
Minimum: Current State of Michigan National Registry Paramedic License, BCLS, ACLS.
Related Experience
Minimum: Two years of recent direct patient care experience in emergency transport or emergency room.
Preferred: Patient transport experience at a Paramedic level
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
▪ Performs intake and rooming of patients, in coordination with a Registered Nurse.
▪ Updates patients on delays and communicates expected time frames.
▪ Rounds on patients in department and waiting room.
▪ Supports patient flow process, under the direction of a RN.
▪ Performs clerical functions such as answering phones and placing pages and phone calls to consultants.
▪ Assist the clinical team with procedures such as CPR, defibrillation, and administration of ACLS medications within scope of practice.
▪ Sets up equipment, including sterile procedures.
▪ Performs and monitors routine vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse and respiration, temperature, pulse oximetry and capnography.
▪ Performs 12-lead EKGs.
▪ Performs intravenous line insertion, interosseous access and phlebotomy.
▪ Administers intravenous isotonic solutions under the direction of licensed provider.
▪ Performs basic splinting, icing and educating on crutch walking.
▪ Assists in transporting patients by cart or wheelchair, including patients requiring telemetry.
▪ Assists with specimen and supply delivery and pick up to and from various departments.
▪ Assists patients with overall care and toileting needs.
▪ Performs room turnover/preparedness.
▪ Cleans equipment.
▪ Observes patients' condition and progress and informs RN of changes or concerns.
▪ Maintains the confidentiality of patients.
▪ Identifies and pursues opportunities to assist other healthcare team members.
▪ Performs intentional rounding of EMS providers in the Emergency Department and communicates needs/concerns to the Emergency leadership team.
▪ Performs other related duties as assigned.
