Paramedics provide emergency treatment, including advanced life support, to patients in emergencies. The Paramedic's role is to assess the urgent medical needs of patients and stabilize their conditions. Paramedics are the most highly trained emergency medical responders. **A caregiver in this position works 24 hour shifts, day/evening/night/weekend, 7:00am-7:00am or 3:00pm-3:00pm.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Provide immediate medical assessment and treatment to injured/ill patients on-site, in the community, and during transport to hospital. + Navigate an ambulance to scene of accident in response to emergency calls. + Maintain equipment, restock supplies and clean ambulances as necessary. + Assess the nature and extent of illness/injury and patient's history from available sources. + Determine appropriate independent or collaborative response. + Administer appropriate emergency medical care including life support procedures, decontamination protocols, fluid/drug administration, obtaining EKG readings and vital statistics monitoring in accordance with EMS protocols. + Communicate with medical personnel at hospital, report/record observations, and follow directives until report and hand-off at hospital. + Complete a USDOT approved Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) course within six months of hire. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program. + Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio. + Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). + Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). + Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). + Current and valid Ohio driver's license (VDL). + Three years of experience as an EMT-P. Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Experience in a larger metropolitan area. + Experience in the emergency room or critical care transport.
