General Notes
This is a PRN position and will be on an as-needed basis with the Advanced Imaging Team.
Purpose
The Paramedic holds accountability for providing care to patients by adhering to UTHA policies and procedures. The registered Paramedic demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment and leadership in the anticipation and planning for safe delivery of care; maintains clinical competencies through continuing education; delegates patient care priorities commensurate with the education and experience of the staff available; provides assistance with patient care preparation.
Responsibilities
Greets patients and visitors in a courteous and helpful manner, escorts patients to patient dressing rooms, instructs the patient how to dress out for their procedure, and explains exam procedures to patients as needed.
Starts IV access on patients as needed using universal protection equipment and aseptic techniques.
Reviews patient history to determine any previous reactions to contrast.
Works with technologists to ensure proper documentation of contrast usage is in place, responds to contrast reactions as necessary.
Properly disposes contaminated medical supplies in the biohazard waste containers.
Restocks, scans, and unloads supply boxes when they arrive. Reports any shortages of supplies to technologists and makes sure saline flushes are ready for the next day.
Assists technologists with patient requests as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School graduation or GED equivalent. Must have Paramedics/EMT License, ACLS Required, working knowledge of first aid.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to learn the operation of fire suppression and other emergency equipment. Ability to perform strenuous or peak physical activities during emergency. Ability to act effectively in emergency and stressful situations. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally. Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Ability to make independent judgments, which have considerable impacts on the organization.
Salary Range
$25/hour+ depending on qualifications
