Paramedic - Oldham County EMS
Status: PRN

Job Summary
Provides advanced life support care to patients who are ill and/or injured. Administers direct care to the patient of all age groups under the direction of an emergency medical physician, emergency physician’s assistant, emergency advanced registered nurse practitioner or utilizes approved EMS medical protocols if transporting a patient. Ensures adherence to hospital and department policies as well as paramedic scope of practice.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual’s job. He/she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
A. Ensures through competency and education the successful performance of the following duties along with other skills within the scope of practice for a paramedic:
Patient Assessment
Intravenous therapy
Cardiac management
Cardiac monitor and defibrillator usage
Neurovascular status
Other medical equipment as mandated by protocol and medical director
Trauma management
Medical emergency management
Patient care reports as well as other necessary run reporting requirements
Scene safety
Additional resource request
Participates as directed within educational limits and if applicable in special operations scenes and continuing education.
B. Ensures proper vehicle readiness along with portable ALS gear and utilization
Maintains current Kentucky Motor Vehicle License
Completes and maintains certification in the Kentucky Board of EMS approved EVOC/Defensive driving course.
Maintains knowledge and familiarity with each vehicle in fleet in order to operate smoothly and safely.
Assures ambulance is clean, stocked and response ready at the beginning and end of every shift, as well as prior to each and every request for service.
Demonstrates cardiac monitoring equipment along with advanced airway and IV supplies are in a clean and operational status
Minimum Education, Training and Experience
High School Diploma/GED.
Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Licensure by the Kentucky Board of EMS
Valid Kentucky Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) through the American Heart Association (Must have upon hire/no grace period)
Valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certifications (PALS) through the American Heart Association. (Must have upon hire/no grace period)
Valid Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) through the American Heart Association (Must have upon hire/no grace period)
Other certifications and specialty training as required by the Kentucky Board of EMS
Good communication skills (verbal and written)
