About the Program and Position: The Family Literacy Program is a free evidence-based home visiting program that promotes healthy development, school readiness, support for the parent-child relationship, and family well-being for families with children ages prenatal through kindergarten. Families who embrace this program are supported with skills to work, play, and read directly with their children so that they can reach their full potential developmentally and emotionally. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator and Family Literacy Supervisor, the Parent Educator coordinates and administers weekly and or bi-monthly home visits to the families participating in the All-Aboard Family Literacy Program. The Parent Educator will be responsible for teaching the families skills and techniques essential for turning a home environment into a stimulating educational setting. How you get to use your skills… + Provides individualized educational instruction and support to program families + Gain knowledge and expertise in an evidence-based model (Parents as Teachers) + Includes a recruitment component and in-home visits, both integral to this position + Prepares and maintains accurate family home visit records + Evaluates the family’s home learning environment + Annually participates in one or more continuous quality improvement committees or activities as assigned + Is reliable in punctuality and attendance, adhering to attendance and timekeeping policies + Performs other duties as assigned Schedule: Non-Exempt + Regular hours entail 9:00 - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday + Must be flexible to meet program needs Experience and Skills: + High school diploma/GED required, some college preferred + 2 years of experience working with young children and/or case management/home visiting programs + Valid Florida Driver’s License required + Reliable transportation required + Training in the Parents as Teachers Curriculum (PAT) preferred + Experience with recruiting families - preferred. Willing to recruit families in the community.
