Summary About the Position: This is a Seasonal Park Ranger position; depending on workload and projects the date may be extended or shortened. This position works primarily nights and weekends, including holidays, throughout the recreation season. Responsibilities Perform visitor assistance activities including patrol of project land and water areas. Advise visitors concerning safety and proper use of facilities in accordance with established policies and regulations. Take appropriate action to ensure compliance with these policies and regulations including the issuance of warnings and citations, when necessary. Monitor visitation recording equipment and troubleshoot equipment making field repairs when necessary. Perform property inventory. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. VETERANS PREFERENCE INFORMATION: There is no formal rating system for applying veteran's preference to attorney appointments in the excepted service; however, the Department of the Army considers veteran's preference eligibility a positive factor for attorney hiring. Qualifications Education or Experience: The following qualification requirements must be met before applicants are eligible for further consideration. Education: Successfully completed a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcript.) Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes technical, administrative, scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement or other park-related work. Examples of such experience would be as a park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation or conservation area; or management, assistant, or program specialist work involving protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations.
