Summary About the Position: This announcement is for current, permanent Army employees that would like to be considered for a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade. Responsibilities Meet the visiting public, providing general assistance and information concerning available facilities and recreational opportunities. Participate in education and outreach by assisting Park Rangers with special events. Create positive connections with the visiting public through land and water patrols while actively promoting the USACE Water Safety program. Perform a variety of duties involving the operation and maintenance of area facilities to include safety, security, and service inspections. Assist in inspecting and reporting on trespasses, encroachments, and damages to Government property. Perform environmental stewardship tasks as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications About the Position: Works under the general supervision receiving assignments from a higher graded Natural Resource Management Specialists. Familiar assignments are assigned with general instructions without explicit detail. Explicit instructions are provided on special, unfamiliar, or unusual assignments. This is a Seasonal/Temporary, Not-to-Exceed (NTE) 6 Months Park Ranger position. Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General and/or Specialized Experience GS-3: Six months of general experience which includes general experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of rules or regulations; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public; AND three months of specialized experience which includes supporting park management projects (involving areas such as fish and wildlife, recreation management); serving as a park guide or tour leader; supporting forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; assisting in developing policy related to protection, conservation, or preservation of park areas or similar operations. OR Education: One year of education above the high school level with six semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 9. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30. Add the two percentages. General and/or Specialized Experience For GS-4: Six months of general experience which includes experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work as qualifying as long as the experience provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public; AND six months of specialized experience which includes supporting park management projects (involving areas such as fish and wildlife, recreation management); serving as a park guide or tour leader; supporting forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; assisting in developing policy related to protection, conservation, or preservation of park areas or similar operations. OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level with twelve semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service Natural Resource Management Oral Communication Personnel Security and Safety Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however, return rights may be impacted.
